"Colorado's newly elected Governor, John Hickenlooper, will deliver the keynote address at the 31st Annual Roosevelt Dinner on Saturday, April 16.
"A geologist-turned-businessman who had never sought political office before running for Mayor of Denver in 2003, Hickenlooper won early acclaim and in 2005 was named one of the country's top five "big city" mayors by Time magazine.
"As mayor, he fostered creativity and efficiency in government. He overhauled the city's financial system, led a successful campaign to fight homelessness, and introduced GreenPrint Denver, a comprehensive plan to make the city cleaner and more environmentally sustainable.
"Hickenlooper ran for Governor of Colorado on a platform of jobs creation and economic development. In part by appealing to independent voters, he was elected in 2010 in a Mountain State where Republicans outnumber Democrats -- positioning Colorado to stay in the Democratic column in the critical 2012 elections.
